  I think it’s meaning for college students to have hobbies, because hobbies can benefit them a lot. On one hand, after a long-time study, hobbies can make them feel relaxed. On the other hand, when they feel depressed, hobbies can bring them happiness. Furthermore, hobbies can mould their temperament as well as show their characteristics.

  However, some students are so addicted to their hobbies that they spend less time on study. How foolish of them to do so! In my view, if we focus too much on one thing, either our studies or hobbies will be badly affected. Thus, we are supposed to balance them in a proper way.

I was very happy and promised to keep it well. Since raising this lovely creature, I became patient. When I bathed her, she struggled and tried to run away, then I had to grab it back. The most important thing was to feed food on time and clean the place that the cat lived. Sometimes I felt so dirty to do it, but I had made my promise and couldn’t break my words. I learned a lot from raising a pet. I started to consider my mother’s feelings when I became naughty. I needed to make some changes and be a better girl.

  World Red Cross Day, also called World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, is on May 8th, and it is an annual celebration of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and all the National Red Cross.

  The date is also the birthday of Henry Dunant, who is the founder of International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The first world war bring great pain to people, after the war the red cross of Czechoslovakia first initiative to organize the “red cross truce” activities, it was held to make the Red Cross humanitarian thoughts spread over the world, enhance friendship and cooperation between people, promote world peace and reduce the war.

  And this activity got universal praise and support from the International Committee of Red Cross.

  Since 1961, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent societies will put forward the World Red Cross Day theme.

  This year’s theme is “my Red Cross Story”. And according to that theme and the local situation, the National Red Cross all over the world will organize various forms of activities to celebrate the day.

  摘要:本研究考察了高中学生英语作文中人称、指示和比较三种指称衔接手段的使用情况。研究发现高中生英语作文中以上三种指称衔接在使用上存在很多问题及错误。本文详细分析了高中生英语作文中指称衔接不恰当使用的原因,并由此针对改善高中写作教学、提高学生写作质量提出了建议。

  关键词:人称指称;指示指称;比较指称

  一、引言

  Halliday和Hasan(1976)认为,衔接是关系到语篇连贯的一个必要条件。本文在Halliday与Hasan的衔接理论以及对衔接手段分类的基础上,对高中生英语作文中指称衔接的使用情况进行了分析,同时深入探讨了导致学生指称衔接不恰当使用的原因,旨在帮助学生加强衔接手段使用的意识。同时,也有利于促进高中生的.英语写作教学,提高学生的写作质量。

  二、理论基础

  Halliday和Hasan将指称衔接分为人称指称、指示指称和比较指称这三类,本文将基于此分类方法进行研究。

  一)人称指称

  人称指称是运用话语情景中的功能、通过人称类别表现的指称。人称代词、所有格形容词和所有格代词均包含在人称指称的范畴之内。

  二)指示指称

  指示指称基本上是一种用词语指示的形式。指示指称主要包括副词指示代词以及名词性指示代词以及定冠词the。

  三)比较指称

  比较指称可以分为一般比较和特殊比较两大类。一般比较仅指相似和不相似方面的比较,即比较双方可以是相同、相似或不同。特殊比较指的是量或质方面的比较。量一般指数量,质的比较也由比较级形容词和副词表示。

  三、研究方法

  一)研究问题

  本研究主要分析高中生英语作文中指称衔接在使用上存在的问题,同时探讨其原因,旨在给高中英语写作教学提供一些参考。

  二)研究对象及语料搜集

  本次研究以烟台一中高二学生为研究对象,要求学生完成一篇120字左右的英语议论文,题目为“Gap Year”,从学生完成的有效作文中随机抽取了60份。分析了学生英语作文中各类指称衔接使用存在的问题,并深入探索其原因。

  三)统计分析方法

  按照指称衔接的以上分类,分别统计学生每一篇作文中人称指称、指示指称和比较指称的数目。同时,辨认出样本作文中以上三类衔接的使用错误,并且统计出各自数目,深入探讨造成这些衔接错误的原因。

  四、研究结果与讨论

  一)指称衔接分布情况分析

  表4.1表明了抽取的60份高二学生样本作文中这三类指称衔接及其错误的分布情况。从表中统计数据可以看出,在各类指称衔接中,人称指称使用的最为频繁,次数达到了471次,比例为58.36%;指示指称次之,次数为264次,比例为32.84%;比较指称的使用频率要远远低于前两者,样本作文中比较指称的使用次数只有72次,比例仅为8.92%。

  从表中可以看出,样本作文中人称指称的使用次数要远远超出指示指称和比较指称的使用次数。此现象可以从以下几个方面来进行分析。第一,这篇文章是说明文和议论文的结合,所以很多时候需要学生对gap year进行描述并且就学生是否进行 gap year发表观点。所以学生在写作时大量地使用了人称指称去描述这一现象或者发表自己的观点,因此在样本作文中人称指称使用频率很高。第二,由于文章题材的关系以及文章内容的限制,所以学生在写作时较少地使用了表示相同、相似、不同、表示比较以及表示数量的比较指称。

  二)指称错误及其原因分析

  通过表4.1的统计数据可以看出,学生在指称衔接的使用上存在很多错误。通过分析样本作文发现,学生在写作中所犯的指称错误具体表现为以下四类:

  1. 人称代词不连续、切换频繁

  学生经常会潜意识地把单数指称代词切换到复数指称代词,把第一人称代词切换到第二人称代词。这种不连续的、前后不一致的人称代词会让读者感到混淆。

  例1:Taking a gap year is popular with American students, it offers students some opportunities to earn money, and they can help us get more social experience.

  這种人称代词不连续的现象的产生可能是由于写作时学生情绪比较紧张,或者是由于学生比较粗心而造成的。如果学生能够仔细检查他们的作文,这些人称代词的错误大部分都是可以被发现并且改正的;

  另一方面,学生母语的影响也使得学生频繁切换人称代词,因为写作时他们可能是在逐字地把脑海中的中文翻译成英文。

  例2:I believe that all of you will benefit a lot from taking a gap year.

  2. 定冠词the的过度使用

  在指示指称部分,样本作文中出现的最多的指示指称项目就是定冠词the。朱叶秋(20xx)发现,中国学生在三类冠词的使用中都会出现不同的错误,包括定冠词的过度使用。周保国(20xx)则认为,低水平英语学习者定冠词误用要多于高水平英语学习者。

  例3:Thegap year is very usual in western countries for the senior high students.

  例4:Today, Id like to introduce an interesting cultural phenomenon called the Gap Year.

  在这两个例句中,定冠词 the都属于过度使用,可以删掉。

  林佳嫣(20xx)研究认为,学习者可能会出于交际目的过度使用定冠词来指称首次出现的名词,如使用定冠词为了强调某种情感,或是引出某个话题。

  例5:In western countries, some students choose to have a gap year between the graduation of high school and the entrance to college.

  此句中,学生在graduation of high school和entrance to college前面都误加了定冠词the,可能是因为该生认为高中毕业和进入大学都是非常重要的事。

  3. 名词性指称项目很少使用

  此外,学生很少在作文中使用名词性指称项目this和that及其附属形式these和those。鉴于this和that在汉语中没有进行严谨地区分,很多高中学生没有准确掌握this和that的用法,而选择不去使用它们。黄灿和罗辉(20xx)认为,学生喜欢使用定冠词the来替代this和that,这是因为定冠词the同样可以用来充当指示指称,学生在写作时使用the可以不用费力来推敲某个地方到底该用this还是该用that。这些错误基本上是受母语影响造成。

  例6:In the western countries, some students can relax for a whole year without going to school after high school graduation.

  例7:Besides, the measure lets them be their own masters and leads to a meaningful life.

  4. 比较指称使用单一

  研究发现,高中生在写作中不太喜欢用比较指称,而且比较指称的使用也比较单一。由于高中生英语水平的限制,他们对于要求相对较高的比较指称词汇运用还不够自如,为了避免错误,他们会有意识地避开此类单词的使用。即使写作过程中需要用到此类词汇时,他们也会选择相对比较简单的一些词汇来表达自己的观点。

  就一般比较指称而言,学生在样本作文中使用的较多的一般比较指称就是单词different,用来形容参加间隔年的学生可以参加的不同活动或者获得的不同体验。

  例8:Traveling to different places also contributes to improving their communication skills and make them more confident to talk with people.

  而在特殊比较指称方面,学生在作文中频繁地使用了单词more,用来进行数量和性质上的比较。

  例9:During this gap year, some students work as volunteers to know more about the society and gain more experience for their future life.

  此外,学生在样本作文中还大量地使用了more and more这一搭配,这也是造成样本作文中特殊指称项目“more”大量使用的原因。

  例10:Nowadays, confronted with more and more challenges in society, many students choose to spend an extra year experiencing life instead of coming into the university immediately.

  五、結论

  通过以上分析可以看出,高中学生英语作文中指称衔接的使用上存在很多问题,这些指称衔接的不当使用主要可以归纳为学生母语负迁移的影响,学生在写作时缺乏衔接意识和语篇意识以及英语教师在写作教学中过多地强调语法和句型,脱离语境进行写作教学。因此,英语教师在教学中应该尽力帮助学生克服母语负迁移带来的影响,在写作教学中有效地引入衔接理论,在平时的英语教学中有意识地培养学生的衔接意识和语篇意识,提高英语写作教学的效果,改善学生的英语写作质量。

However, now people who enjoy reading those classical books are getting less and less. There are a lot of reasons for this phenomena. To begin with, there are many other leisure activities in the modern society, young men go to do these things instead of reading. What's more,many people prefer some other books to classics because they think classics are useless.

  I think, we university men should take some effective actions to prevent the situation. We should read classics as many as possible in our spare time, and we shouldn't just scan those words and phrases over our minds but to use your head to think more about those.

Thanksgiving is almost entirely celebrated at home, unlike the Fourth of July or Christmas, which are associated with a variety of shared public experiences (fireworks, caroling, etc.)
